In the Garden

One of my favorite hymns, In the Garden, was written by C. Austin Miles. According to Miles' great-granddaughter, the song was written "in a cold, dreary and leaky basement in Pitman, New Jersey that didn't even have a window in it let alone a view of a garden."

Jesus walks with me and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.

Karen, I love this hymn. There must have been a garden in the heart of the one who wrote it. :) Blessings, xoxo, Susie

This is one of my favorites and I think Susie said it best in her comment about the author.

One of my favorite hymns too. It's amazing that it was written in a place with no garden.

Wow, I never knew that about the writer of that beloved hymn. Imagine...he was walking in the Garden with Jesus in his mind's eye and heart. Sometimes that is what we have to do. There are times that we just can't see the dew on the roses, but we can believe that Jesus is there with us, no matter where we are. Such a comfort. Thank you for this today.

Sometimes the best views don't come from windows at all.

One of the first hymns I learned to play on the piano when I was a kid. My dad loved that one, The Old Rugged Cross and When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder...and we never hear any of them in churches anymore (at least here). xo Diana

This beautiful song reminds me of our walk with Jesus. even in that damp basement there was a garden in his heart, as Christ walked with him. I enjoyed your sisters flowers too.
