Guided

I will instruct you and teach you
in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye.
Psalm 32:8

Granddaugher Kaedyn has enjoyed watching the geese flying over and stopping to rest and graze on the lawn here. She asked, how they decide who will be the line leader and who will be the caboose.

COLOR

I was telling my grandchildren about my friends' new giant screen plasma Color TV. They couldn't understand why I kept calling it a "color" TV. What other kind of TV is there? I felt foolish when I realized that color TV has been common for over 50 years!

I am so thankful for color and for the changing colors of the different seasons. Right now, I still have honeysuckle, morning glories and crepe myrtles in view, while some of the trees are beginning to show touches of red and gold. I love this time of year!

Praying for Flood Victims

Many waters cannot quench your love,
rivers cannot overwhelm it
Oceans of fear cannot conceal your love for me
Many sorrows cannot quench your love,
Darkness cannot overwhelm it
I will not fear, your love is here to comfort me

Open My Eyes

Open my eyes, Lord.
I want to see Jesus.
To reach out and touch Him
And say that I love Him.
Open my ears, Lord,
And help me to listen,
Open my eyes, Lord.
I want to see Jesus.
Matt Hyam

God will never love us more than He does at this moment,
and He will never love us less.

Hidden Away

How great is Your goodness
Stored up for those who fear You
No end to the kindness
That comes from You each day
We count on compassion
In the shelter of Your presence
Hidden away hidden from harm
How great Your love
Don Moen

How great is your goodness
that you have stored up for those who fear you,
that you have given to those who trust you.
You do this for all to see.

God's Goodness

You crown the year with Your goodness,
And Your paths drip with abundance.
They drop on the pastures of the wilderness,
And the little hills rejoice on every side.
The pastures are clothed with flocks;
The valleys also are covered with grain;
They shout for joy, they also sing.
Psalm 65:11-13

Each New Day

I remember Daddy telling about being on guard duty in Europe during WWII, and how dark and cold the winter nights were. He spoke of finishing his watch and thanking God to see the first light of dawn, the warmth of the sun, and for each new day.
Psalm 130:6-7 "My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is lovingkindness and with Him is abundant redemption."
I am thankful for all those who serve our country.

You Made a Way

Are You not the One who dried up the sea,
The waters of the great deep;
That made the depths of the sea a road
For the redeemed to cross over?
So the ransomed of the Lord shall return,
And come to Zion with singing,
With everlasting joy on their heads.
They shall obtain joy and gladness;
Sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Isaiah 51:10-11

You made a way for me
To enter the Holy Place
I am Yours. You are mine
And we'll be together forever

A Gracious Plenty

My teenage friend's little brother begged him to help plant pumpkin seeds, so they could sell pumpkins in the Fall. Being a very busy big brother,  he told the little guy just to toss them out the side door and hope for the best.

The seeds were forgotten until one day they noticed that vines were covering the side yard. Their Dad was amazed to turn into the driveway one evening and find vines blocking the garage! Soon there were fat orange pumpkins everywhere you looked!

Little Brother pocketed some good money at his road-side stand, all from a package of good seeds.

Hiding God's Word in my heart is like planting good seed.

Just as rain and snow descend from the skies
and don't go back until they've watered the earth,
doing their work of making things grow and blossom,
producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry,
So will the words that come out of my mouth
not come back empty-handed.
They'll do the work I sent them to do,
they'll complete the assignment I gave them.
Isaiah 55:10-11

On Track

Trust God from the bottom of you heart.
Don't try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God's voice in everything you do
Everywhere you go.
He's the One who will keep you on track.
Proverbs 3:5-6

What I Love About Summer

I love to see the flowers bloom from spring throughout the fall
But summer's glorious colors are the sunniest of all.
Glads make me happy and lilies lift my chin
But those bright-eyed black-eyed Susans always make me grin.
Karen
Enjoy the last half of August!

Thanks to sister Mildred for sharing her pretty flower pics with me!

I just learned that black eyed Susans and coneflowers are members of the Sunflower family.
I love to see the fields of sunflowers in Kansas.

In the Garden

One of my favorite hymns, In the Garden, was written by C. Austin Miles. According to Miles' great-granddaughter, the song was written "in a cold, dreary and leaky basement in Pitman, New Jersey that didn't even have a window in it let alone a view of a garden."

Jesus walks with me and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.

Early in the Morning

I am blessed to have a nice place to walk. The huge lawn near my apartment is attracting flocks of hungry geese, and the neighbors' flowers are at their peak.

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.
Psalm 65:8

My Solid Rock

The Lord is my solid rock,
    my fortress, my rescuer.
My God is my rock
I take refuge in Him!
 He’s my shield,
  my salvation’s strength,
 my place of safety.
Psalm 18:2

Good Memories

Sunday afternoons, when we were kids, we'd all pile into the car and go for a drive out in the country. In the sixties, Alpharetta, Georgia, was small, but the neighboring communities were tiny! Passing through Shakerag, Ocee, or Crabapple folks sitting on their front porches we didn't even know would smile and wave.

We lived close enough to walk to Sunday night service at the Baptist Church. We would pause to enjoy the shade of the towering maple trees that lined the church property.

Fifth Sunday night was Hymn Sing - no sermon. People in the congregation would call out their favorite number. I liked it when we sang acapella: "I Am Resolved No Longer to Linger". I remember Sandra Bagwell's clear soprano, Larry Garmon singing tenor, and Charles Worley's deep voice chiming: "Hasten glad and free" .

The day might end with friends dropping by our house for Mother's pound cake and hand cranked ice cream.

For You, O God...have given me the heritage of those who revere Your name.
Psalm 61:5

Enough

Kaedyn was reading the story to me where a small boy willingly gave Jesus all that he had, two fish and five loaves could not feed five thousand men. Jesus accepted it joyfully.

Jesus looked up to heaven and blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the disciples to hand out. Jesus performed the miracle of enough...and twelve baskets of more than enough..

Jesus takes what seems not quite good enough and works miracles that I cannot imagine. It is not up to me to make things work; it is up to Him. When I admit that I'm less than enough, then He has an opportunity to be more than enough. Isn't it interesting that as He broke the bread, it multiplied.

I need to remember that sometimes when things seem to be breaking, that is because Jesus wants me to see that He is more than enough for every need.

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work
2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Reaches to the Sky

When I was a child, I used to wish I could fly like a bird and touch the clouds, or get close enough to touch a rainbow.

Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
Psalm 36:5

Matchless Grace

I remember the choir in our small church when I was growing up. I think I can still name everybody in it because they were neighbors and kinfolk. It seems to me that they often sang this song for the special just before the sermon.
I liked it then, but now I appreciate the truth of it more:
What Jesus did for me is sufficient for all my needs,
His mercy is greater than my sin,
and His grace is deeper than the deepest sea.

                            Micah 7:19
You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.

Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea,
Higher than the mountain,
Sparkling like a fountain,
All sufficient grace for even me,
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame,
O magnify the precious name of Jesus,
Praise His name!

you won't hear me complaining about the heat!

Every Cloud has a Gold Lining?

We had these big dark thunderclouds pop up this evening, but there was the prettiest golden sunset behind them.

Less than three weeks now until the solar eclipse!
