Grandmother loved flowers. When I got old enough to drive, she would have me drive her way out a country road. There was a little old house with a very old woman named Miss Ola who had a yard full of beautiful flowers - no grass, just red Georgia dirt paths she swept clean with a brush broom, Miss Ola still wore an ankle length dress and a sun bonnet like they wore long ago.
She and grandmother would catch up on old times, and the woman would load Grandmother down with flowers to take home, insisting we come back more often.
I was thinking about all the changes since Grandmother was born in April 1894. Yet the best things are the same, like the beauty of a flower and the gift of friendship.

When You Shepherd Me
I am overwhelmed by love,
Overtaken by Your mercy.
Lord, Your goodness without end
Will be the house in which I dwell.

Psalm 16:11
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
I noticed this morning that my Dad had highlighted this verse in his Bible a short time before he went to be with the Lord. It made me think of the song
The Longer I Serve Him, the Sweeter He Grows

Quiet Beauty
I look forward to this view out my living room window every March.
I am remembering this chorus from childhood:
Peace, peace, wonderful peace.
Coming down from the Father above.
Sweep over my spirit forever I pray
In fathomless billows of love.

Goodness
How great is Your goodness,
Which You have stored up
for those who fear You,
Which You have wrought
for those who take refuge in You
Psalm 31:19
I was enjoying the birds, white pear blossoms, and bright blue sky today,
and was so thankful for God's goodness. I am praying for those affected by the
flooding in Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and other states.

Spring Rain
How blessed all those in whom You live,
whose lives become roads You travel;
They wind through lonesome valleys,
whose lives become roads You travel;
They wind through lonesome valleys,
come upon brooks,
discover cool springs
discover cool springs
and pools brimming with rain!
God-traveled,
God-traveled,
these roads curve up the mountain,
and at the last turn—Zion!
God in full view!

He Is Near
Just when I need Him
Jesus is near,
Just when I falter
Just when I fear.
Ready to help me,
Ready to cheer,
Just when I need Him most.
Just when I need Him
Jesus is strong,
Bearing my burdens
All the day long.
For all my sorrow,
giving a song
Just when I need Him most.
Charles Gabriel
This day is holy to our Lord.
Do not grieve,
for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Lesson Learned?

A Mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3-years-old. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw an opportunity to teach a lesson.
She said, "If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'
Kevin turned to his younger brother and sweetly asked, "Ryan, would you like to be Jesus!"

Trust
My granddaughter was memorizing Proverbs 3:5-6. She wondered what this means:"In all your ways acknowledge God".
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.

Prayer
Hear my cry, O God.
Attend unto my prayer.
From the ends of the earth
will I cry unto Thee
when my heart is overwhelmed:
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For Thou hast been a shelter for me
and a strong tower from the enemy.
I will abide in Thy tabernacle forever.
I will trust in the covert of Thy wings. Selah.
Psalm 61:1-4
