First Light

Daddy died on October 31. 1998. He served our country during WW2, and he never would talk much about it until his final years when he had Parkinson's Disease.

Daddy told about being on guard duty in Europe during the war, and how black and frigid the nights were. He spoke of finishing his watch and thanking God when he saw the first light of another day. He was so grateful to feel the warmth of the sun.

Daddy trusted in the Lord as a teenager, but he told me that when he was in battle, he promised the Lord if he lived, he would live for Jesus - and he did. I treasure the memory of our family gathering at bedtime for Bible reading and prayer.

Psalm 130:6-7 "My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is lovingkindness and with Him is abundant redemption."

You were truly blessed to have such a father. Your header is stunning, as is the picture of first light. Beautiful tree as well.

What a wonderful memory of your father. I'm sure you treasure your time with him. He truly was a hero not only because of his service for his country, but also because of his service for the Lord.

your dad and mine were so very much alike, same generation. daddy did not give his life to the Lord until I was 8, which made him 38 years old. his brother Jack was like your dad, would not talk about the war at all, he was a tail gunner on a plane. I think your dad and mine were heros because they lived their lives for God and led others to do the same

What a lovely father you had Karen, and what beautiful pictures. My dad was a lovely dad too, who always said 'Well let's see what the Lord says' when my siblings and myself used to argue and say 'Dad, dad who is right'. He always found something that solved the problem. He died when I was eleven, but those eleven years were worth more than any amount of years because of what he taught us.
God bless you with your lovely memories of a wonderful dad.
