My son Cameron, who lives in Brooklyn, often drives across the Brooklyn Bridge. I have never been to NYC and I love to learn about its history online.
I was surprised that construction of the Brooklyn Bridge began in 1869 and took 14 years to complete. People were afraid to trust the bridge, so chief engineer Emily Roebling asked P.T. Barnum to bring 21 circus elephants to march across and convince residents of the safety of the world's first steel-wire suspension bridge.
Today more than 125,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day.

What an incredible way to convince folks to use the bridge! It's interesting to learn about different cities and landmarks.
Oh to have been there to see the elephants walking across the bridge, what a sight.

Wow, that's amazing. How exciting that Cameron often drives across the Brooklyn Bridge. I didn't realize that many cars cross the bridge every day. I've always wanted to visit New York City too, Karen. This is a beautiful picture of the bridge.

I was so surprised to see the Brooklyn Bridge! I spent Christmas Eve and day in Brooklyn and crossed the Brooklyn Bridge this morning. I don't travel over it very often, so it was fun to see it tonight.
That was very interesting about the bridge. I have been across it and like a silly school girl was excited...lol Hope you have a good day.
I have driven into NYC several times to visit my brother when he lived there but did not have the experience of seeing or driving across the bridge. In hindsight I now wish I had been a bit more adventurous. I was always afraid of getting lost. Love the picture!
Beautiful! I didn't know the history of the construction and the Elephants:) Have a blessed day dear Karen, HUGS!

That is such a wonderful experience for him to live there. Great info.
