Glad We Didn't Have a Computer
Summer Memories from the Fifties and Sixties:
Eating watermelon on Pawpaw's steps
Turning a hand-cranked ice cream freezer
Burying bottled soft drinks in a wash tub of ice for the family reunion
Wading in the creek
Boating at Lake Lanier
Picking blackberries with Grandma for jam and cobbler
Playing in the red dirt in the basement when it was too hot to play outside.
Swinging on a tire swing
Catching flies and grounders on the vacant lot
A yard full of neighborhood kids under the shade trees

I certainly agree with you. Technology is great in its place but it has robbed us of much. Have a blessed day.
Amen!!! Yes, we did grow up in a much happier, simpler...and healthier time. Kids today don't know how to get outside and play and get lots of fresh air and exercise. The only thing they exercise is their fingers on the keypads...so sad.
Very fun memories, sis. I would love to have watermelon or ice cream today - it is hot! Love your header collage and background.
Hello, they all sound like fun things to do and wonderful memories. I remember my old neighborhood friends, catching fireflies and playing in the stream. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day and the weekend ahead.
You are RIGHT! We lived in a golden age. We all ran, played, caught fireflies, stayed out till dark. Kid's now just sit with electronics.
I did not like turning that crank but I did love the ice cream and I love watermelon to.. we had red dirt in our basement in KY but we were scared of the basement, it was haunted, so we never played in it. played in the creek, soaked in a wash tub like a mini pool, ate more blackberries than we put in the pail. pretty much the same things you mentioned here. but I worked, picking in the garden, shelling and peeling and helping mother can, hanging out wash, bringing it in, sprinkling it and iron it... I don't miss that part. also hauling drinking water and taking out the slop jar to dump in the out house every morning.
Karen, It seems the older generation of kids found plenty of fun things to do. We have great loving memories of days gone by. Blessings for a fun filled weekend, xoxo, Susie
Wonderful memories! I'd like a slice of watermelon right now. :)
Such very nice memories to treasure.
All the best Jan
Poor kids today did miss what we had in our childhood.
But now that I am old sure glad I have my I-pad and wire -less.
To heck with them!
Isn't that the truth, Karen. Glad we didn't have a computer growing up either. I love your list of summer memories, especially picking blackberries with grandma for jam and cobbler. Oh, and a yard full of neighborhood kids under the shade trees. How I remember that. This picture of the swing looks like you and Mildred. : )
