At first, we'd use it for a fort. After it got some wear and tear, we would flatten it out for a sled. We'd run and jump on the cardboard and slide down the leaf-covered hill, hopefully dodging the trees. After we tired of that, we would draw on it.
When Mother couldn't stand the sight of it littering her yard any more, and we'd burn it on the brush pile and toast marshmallows on wire coat hangers!
I don't think we missed a thing by not having iPads and smartphones!

You certainly found multiple uses for something that most would just throw away (especially these days!) Sounds like you had a lot of fun. :-)
Fun memories. I remember cutting windows in those big boxes for my playhouse! (probably used one of mother's good knives!)
Fun, I remember doing the same. We made great forts with boxes. We did that for our boys as well. My husband made the best houses for them.
Fun post, thank you for the memories.

Us too, we would ALWAYS play outside:) I am thankful for the days playing around the OLD oak tree in the front yard! Memories of simpler days are sweet! Have a blessed day dear Karen, BIG HUGS!
True, we did have fun way back then.
totally agree.
We sure had fun in those days, didn't we? The last time our kids were at our house, they asked for big boxes and we pulled out big cardboard boxes from the garage to play with. They love it and our granddaughter is very creative with her box. Such fun.
I so agree. I think todays children are missing out on so much. You sure found a use for cardboard boxes lol... Hugs, LJ
