It was a sunny spring day in Buford, Georgia. The kids and I went for a walk - tossing our sweaters aside. What a surprise to wake the next morning to 5 inches of snow! As I busied myself in the house, the kids were enlisting the neighbors to help build a BIG snowman - right under my clothes line! Just like in the storybook, they rolled the snowballs round and packed them tight.
Soon the sun was shining and the birds were singing, and the snow disappeared - everywhere but under my clothesline. It seems Mr. Snowman would never melt, and when he did, he left a muddy puddle for me to wade through with my clean white sheets!
I used to love the smell of sheets that had dried in the sun and fresh air, but all these years later I treasure the sound of the kids having fun even more!

Sweet memory! I remember handing mother clothespins to hang laundry on the line when I was little! You were probably watching Andy Williams or something while I was working!!! lol
well of course they built it right under the clothesline. I for one love my dryer and do not miss the clotheslines. the clothes would freeze hard and then have to be ironed. I was in charge of ironing all the flat laundry, hankerchiefs, sheets, pillow cases. even towels.
Oh that is so true!! We lived in our home for 35 years, all our children were raised there. Before Mr D retired and after I retired, I would be home alone..the house would be quiet...and I could hear sounds of my children from long ago. The rooms of that old house held so many precious memories. Hope you have a very blessed and happy SonDay.
I can remember like it was yesterday all the neighborhood kids playing tag in our yard until dark and the neighbor man complaining about the noise. I told him,"There's hope! They will all start school soon." Now my oldest is 43!
What a wonderful memory. One of my favorite books as a kid was Frosty the Snowman...and it was so sad when he 'disappeared' at the end of the story. I love that your kids (and you) got to experience that snow day! xo Diana
What a terrific memory. There is nothing like the sound of those sweet voices and the giggles. I'm glad they got to build a snowman. We don't get the chance in the south that often.
Bittersweet memories for sure. I can almost picture your snowman and hear your happy children. These are the kinds of memories I love ( and wipe away a tear or two as I read).
This is a heartwarming story, Karen. There was nothing more satisfying to me than spending time with my little ones. :)

Karen, I don't think there's any cleaner smell than sheets dried in the fresh air. I miss having that smell here. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
Oh, what a sweet memory. I HOPE you have pictures of the BIG snowman. I saw a sign yesterday and I sent a picture of it to our daughter about letting our children be little. She has four "little"s who call me Nannie. Blessed!
Aww what a sweet, sweet post.
Every time you wade in that puddle you will reminisce of those children laughing and playing while creating that wonderful snowman.
Thank you for that precious comment you left on my post today. I too, enjoy my visits with you and the words you share in your posts.
Bless you~~
Fun story about a sweet memory!
I enjoyed this story. So very well written and I smiled so reading it.
Thank You!

Oh, I do love the sound of happy children...in a restaurant when we hear a little one laughing or saying ma-ma or da-da-da, we look at each other and smile. And Remember Lorelei being that little.
