I put the scarecrow on my front door this morning.
In my childhood, many people in our area had big gardens. It always thrilled me to spot a scarecrow flapping his arms in the breeze.
This morning, I heard crows cawing and it was cool as I headed out for my walk. There was a touch of red on the burning bush.
This reminded me of a song that Mother sang to me -
one that she had learned when she was a child.
The scarecrow stands up all day long
Nodding and waving to the old wind's song,
His coat tail flapping and his hat pulled low
As he stands and waits to scare that crow.
