Sunday Best

Sunday morning in 1954 meant scratchy crinolines and frilly socks for me, and shiny leather shoes and a studly bow tie for my big brother. It is funny the things that I distinctly remember from so long ago.

At Easter, my Mother bought me a see-thru plastic purse with hairbrush set and pretend cosmetics inside.

Do you have a favorite gift or item you remember from childhood?

Oh I love this! Reminds me of a photo I have of my brother and I in our Easter outfits. I remember those frilly dresses, white gloves, hats and white paten leather shoes.
I too had a purse filled with all those girly things. ♡

I love this photo of you and Larry! Did grandmother make your dress? I remember those plastic see-thru purses. I remember one Christmas, you and I rec'd matching house robes. Navy blue and white with red accents. I really loved the fact that we matched!

Yes, Grandmother made the pink dress for me. I think she even made some of Larry's clothes when we were little. She loved to go to a large fabric store in Buckhead.

I loved seeing this picture of you and your brother from childhood, Karen! Oh how I remember those crinolines...scratchy is right...but I also loved the way they made my skirts pouf out! I guess maybe it was a love/hate relationship I had with them. :)

I don't really remember a purse as a child, but I do remember those sweet white gloves that I wore to church. :)

This is such a cute picture! I remember we usually wore a ribbon or bow in our hair for Easter.

I love your sweet picture with your brother. Oh yes, the crinolines were such fun! And white gloves too! We had to wear little hats or flowers in our hair especially on Easter. Such happy memories. Special gifts as a child? A rubber "Lady" dog, from the "Lady and the Tramp" movie. I wanted that rubber dog so much. It had a squeaker in it too. I hugged that doggie like it was real, and kept it until the rubber cracked from age. Also a doctor kit. I thought I would turn out to be a nurse, but never did. But I loved that as a kid. Thanks for the memory joggers today!

No gifts were given in our household. We did buy those really sweet Easter egg candies that were hid around the house for us to find.
