If I am afraid

If I am afraid to speak the truth lest I lose affection,
or lest the one concerned should say
"You do not understand",
or because I fear to lose my reputation for kindness, or
if I put my own good name before the other's highest good,
then I know nothing of Calvary love.
Amy Carmichael

I have been listening to Elisabeth Elliot on youtube, and she quoted this poem by that had influenced her life. I have been guilty of backing down when I should have stood my ground, or nodding in agreement when I should have argued my case. So this poem really spoke to me.

Karen, I know that the Lord wants us to be kind...he also gave us brains to think..I think it's okay to stand up for yourself and what you truly believe is right. Some times , if it isn't going to change anything anyway...then I can bite my tongue and let stuff go. I always told ted , Let's not sweat the small stuff. I love reading your blog. Blessings to you , xoxo, Susie

THat takes a lot of courage. Something I think we all struggle with. Speaking the truth in love can be difficult...but with God, He will make it all work out right if we honor Him and trust Him to take the lead. Thank you for sharing this. It gives me courage.

I think we have all been guilty of not speaking our mind when we should. And probably sometimes vice versa...but I do feel like I am chicken-hearted sometimes.

I always stand up for what is right, but I never argue with anyone who has a belief I know I can't change. a time to speak a time to stay quiet. the poem made me stop and think hard for a while...
