Bird Watching at the Pond

I walked to a nearby pond, and discovered several killdeer nesting in the grass. They would scold me and even pretend to be wounded and flounder around to distract me from their eggs..

Good Morning! I am happy that you have such a pretty place to walk and enjoy nature. Spring is nice for walking and sitting on the porch before the heat of summer keeps us indoors! Have a very nice weekend.xo

Pretty pictures. I've seen killdeer do that before. They are clever to lure people away like that.

Looks like you got some good pictures anyway, Karen. I love the way they act injured to distract you from their nests. They are amazing birds. xo Diana

Karen, We have those birds out here. They will build nests in the fields. Some days they are all squawking at the same time. There eggs are cute. Once there was a baby in our yard and I tried to make it hope to the flowerbed...so the neighbor's cats would not find it. Now we have no cats around...because of coyotes...I am pretty sure that's what has happened to all the cats. Our neighbor had over ten cats one summer and I know the couple down the road had more than a dozen. Last year I saw two cats down the road. Food chain, I guess. Sad at times. Blessings, stay warm...it's chilly here. xoxo, Susie

Oh Karen, bird watching is one of my favorite things to do, and I've never seen this bird. Such a striking little fellow. The nearby pond looks so pretty and peaceful.

I think the bird looks like a killdeer bird but I may be wrong. They nest here among the rocks or on rocky tops of flat roofs They have long legs as if they are wading birds but I have never seen them near water. The egg shot is wonderful. I will check my spelling and see if I know what I am talking about after I finish comment. Take care dear friend.
