A Bite of Something Sweet

A box of candy under his arm
Adds to a man a touch of charm.
A smile of welcome he's sure to win
Who, carrying sweets, comes walking in.
And this is well-known, in the candy shop
Many flaws are hidden with chocolate drops.
Edgar A. Guest
I remember Grandpa would sometimes drop by our house just as we were finishing supper and he would have a little sack of treats in his coat pocket from Leon's Quick Shop. Grandpa wasn't much with flowery words, but he remembered to bring us kids a 'bite of something sweet'!

What a fun memory! My grandpa always had those pink spearmint? candies and also had an onyx jar kept full of Virginia peanuts. It was wonderful! LOL

Thanks for the comment on the lemon poppyseed muffin recipe. I'm thinking that most people would like 1/2 c. sugar better than the low 1/3 c. I put in, although I love it with less sugar.

Karen, What a wonderful grandfather you had. My dad (step father)would some times carry Werther's . I know my girls loved those. Blessings to you, happy Valentine's. xoxo, Susie

Your Grandpa sounds like a special one having sweets in his pockets for the kids. I love this poem, and did you know you can still get those chocolate drops at See's? (if they are the same ones you are talking about). Your side bars are so lovely.

My grandfather died when I was four, but I still remember how he would keep the pink Canada mints in his pockets for me. Fun memory.
