Praying for Our Nation's Leaders

Psalm 130:7

I am praying for leaders to be elected who know right from wrong and are willing to stand up for righteousness according to God's Word.

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Isaiah 5:20

Walking Trail

I had never turned down this street close to where I live before this week. It was a wonderland - the colors were so rich. This was the day before the steady rain and wind that brought the leaves down. Today they carpet the walkway like a slip and slide.

Don't Give Up

Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

I Will Guide You With My Eye

I will instruct you and teach you
in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye.
Psalm 32:8
When my son Caleb was alive, we made regular visits to his heart doctor's office. At age 3, Caleb's only words were Dada, uh-oh, and 'darsh', which meant "rewind that cassette tape ASAP!" The doctor would be amazed at how I knew what Caleb wanted by looking at his eyes. He would say, "You two are so in tune!" Caleb rarely had to cry for attention, because I could anticipate his needs.

I was thinking about this promise from the Psalms:
The Lord says: I will guide you with My eye.

Lord Jesus, thank you for guiding us with Your eye.  I pray that I will pay attention those things that are dear to Your heart.

Waiting Expectantly!

In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice;
In the morning, I lay my requests before you
and wait expectantly.
Psalm 5:3

This past week, six year-old Kaedyn was at my house working on a Fall leaf project. We could not find her pencil box that held her Crayola markers. She said we could pray and ask God to help us.

"We need to hold hands while we pray," she told me. She asked God to show her where it was, and she thanked Him in Jesus' name.

She stood up with a big smile fully expecting to see the box. And she did!! It was behind her stack of library books on the dresser hidden until that moment.

What an awesome God!

How Great Are You, Lord

Great is Your love,
Reaching to the heavens;
Your faithfulness
Reaches to the skies.

Garments of Praise

We are made in the image of a beautiful God, but our culture makes us feel "less than" if we don't fit a certain mold. Most of us obsess over "store-bought" beauty because we feel unsettled as we compare ourselves with others.

Mike Bickle wrote: "The glorious news is that the beauty of God is not just something He possesses—it is something He imparts through redemption to his bride."

David prayed that God would "beautify the humble with salvation" (Psalm 149:4). The Message phrases it this way: "Because God delights in his people, He festoons plain folk with salvation garlands!"

Thank you, Lord, that when we come knocking at your gate, at the end of ourselves, you not only receive us, but you honor us with beautiful garments of praise.

Savoring the Beauty!

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.

Hold You?

I was scrolling back through pictures of granddaughter Kaedyn and remembering cute things she said as she was learning to talk in sentences.

Sometimes she would get the words a little mixed up. I loved it when she wanted to be carried, or to rest in my lap, and she made me an offer that was hard to refuse: "Nana, you want me to hold you?"

When I read this verse, I can imagine the Lord asking, when we get weary:
"You want Me to hold you?"

If I take the wings of the morning
or dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there shall Your hand lead me,
and Your right hand shall hold me.

Psalm 139:9-10

All Who Are Thirsty

For I will pour out water on the thirsty land

And streams on the dry ground;

I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring

And My blessing on your descendants;

And they will spring up among the grass

Like poplars by streams of water.

Come, Lord Jesus, Come!

The Knobs

I live in the Ohio Valley where I have a view of  a high ridge called "Floyd's Knobs".

It is beautiful in the autumn when the colorful hardwoods are cloaked in mist. And it is a peaceful sight as I walk in the evenings with the sunset glowing behind the treetops.

Something about that ridge, standing on tip-toe, reaching for the clouds, makes me think of one of the songs of David that the people sang going up to Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles: .

I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth

Still Waters

Displaying FullSizeRender.jpg
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
