Got any rivers you think are uncrossable
Got any mountains you can't tunnel through
God specializes in things thought impossible
He does the things others cannot do.

I woke up with this old chorus on my mind, but couldn't remember all the words. When I looked online, I found the following comment with the lyrics:

My father is Oscar C. Eliason.  Dad wrote the chorus in 1929.  He was dying of TB in a Minneapolis hospital and an elderly minister came by one evening and prayer was offered. The next day be began to improve and he continued to improve to such an extent that the Doctors admitted that something out of the ordinary had happened.

(I would like to know more of this story!)

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

In Christ Alone

As you live this new life, we pray that you will be strengthened from God’s boundless resources, so that you will find yourselves able to pass through any experience and endure it with courage. You will even be able to thank God in the midst of pain and distress because you are privileged to share the lot of those who are living in the light. For we must never forget that he [God] rescued us from the power of darkness, and re-established us in the kingdom of his beloved Son, that is, in the kingdom of light. For it is by his Son alone that we have been redeemed and have had our sins forgiven.
Colossians 1:11-14

God has really been speaking to our Bible study group through this song recently. A member of our group is a young mother and wife who has cancer. The doctors have said there is nothing more they can do for her. Yet she is holding on to her faith in Christ and she has the most beautiful smile, even when she is too weak to sit or speak. Please pray for Esther and her family.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love,
What depths of peace
When fears are stilled,
When strivings cease.
My comforter, my all in all,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

Praise and Strength

It is written that, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower.”  The word in Hebrew for “strong” is “oz”.  It means “strength”, “force”, and “boldness”. Thus, the name of God is strong, it has a force in it, and it gives boldness. The word also means security. The name of God brings security. It also means “majesty” - the name of God is majestic.

However, “oz” also means “praise”  in Hebrew. So there is a link between praise and strength.

Those who praise God become strong. The praising of God brings strength. Jehoshaphat’s soldiers were strong because they praised God. That was always the secret of God’s army. The armies of Israel were led by worshipers praising. Those who don’t praise God, who complain, are going to be weak. Those who praise God are going to be strong.

The secret of strength is not exercise or willpower, the secret of strength is given to those who praise. For “oz” means both praise and strength. The name of God is a strong tower, a tower of praise.

From Message - Inside the Tower - by Jonathan Cahn

Today’s Mission: Give thanks to the Lord and sing a love song of praise to Him.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower;

The righteous run to it and are safe.

Quiet Week

I have not been out all week because of the snow and ice.  I live at the top of a hill that has not been cleared. I have been blessed to have a warm place. Thankfully, our electricity stayed on. I know most of the states have been affected by the harsh winter weather.

I have enjoyed reading through Isaiah again, one of my favorite Old Testament books. Here is a favorite verse:

"The mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, and My covenant of peace will not be shaken," say the Lord who has compassion you you.

4th of July Parade1965

My friend Becky's Mom took us to downtown Atlanta to see the Parade. Handsome David McCallum was the star we longed to catch a glimpse of as he passed by in a convertible. He played the part of a spy on the popular new TV show The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Becky's little sister wrote a fan letter to McCallum afterwards that said. "I was the girl in the pink dress." Being older and wiser (?) we teased her about that and assured her he did not remember her outfit or even notice her in the throngs along Peachtree Street.

As I was reading Isaiah 49:15 this morning, I was humbled to think that the God of the universe knows us and sees us. His Word says He knows where we live. He knows our thoughts. He knows if our favorite color is pink. Sweet is His promise: Even if others forget - I will not forget you.

Thankful to Know the Lord

I will serve Thee because I love Thee
You have given life to me.
I was nothing before You found me,
You have given life to me.
Heartaches, broken pieces,
Ruined lives are why You died on Calvary.
Your touch was what I longed for,
You have given life to me.

William J. and Gloria Gaither

This is what the Lord says:
“Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom,
or the powerful boast in their power,
or the rich boast in their riches.
But those who wish to boast
should boast in this alone:
that they truly know me

and understand that I am the Lord
who demonstrates unfailing love
and who brings justice

and righteousness to the earth,
and that I delight in these things.
I, the Lord, have spoken!
Jeremiah 9:23-24
