All Your Cares

I have often thought about this verse as a warning not to get involved in evil....things like stealing and murder.

"Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8

Then I realized that the previous sentence reads: "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." 1 Peter 6-7

God's list of evil includes being proud and self-righteous, but also being cowardly. He doesn't want me to be weighed down with shame and fear, for it is God Himself who promises to take care of me.

I cast all my cares upon You
I lay all of my burdens
Down at Your feet
And anytime I don't know
What to do,
I will cast all my cares
Upon You

Christmas Past and Present

When I was a teen, our youth group went up and down the streets of town Christmas caroling, wearing our royal blue choir robes over our wool coats. We especially made an effort to visit older folks. Now I guess I am officially one of the older folks!....So a group of us went caroling in our neighborhood last weekend. In our group of carolers, we had people from China, Korea, Russia and Egypt. It was beautiful to hear the carols sung in different languages.

The sights and sounds of the season brighten a lot of faces. It's fun to think back on the excitement of being a child at Christmas.

My son treated me to a birthday lunch at Cracker Barrel and a trip to a very busy KC mall Saturday. This is the double-decker Merry Go Round. (makes me dizzy just to watch it!)

Paths of Wisdom

credit

    He has reserved priceless wisdom
 for decent people.
He is a shield for those who walk in integrity
in order to guard those on paths of justice
and to watch over the way of his godly ones.

Proverbs 2:7-8

Father, I pray for Godly pastors and leaders in our nation, who stand up for what is right in Your eyes.

ONE THING

International House of Prayer Kansas City announced that Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke will be preaching at the One Thing Conference that is held December 28-31, 2014.

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. Ps 27:4

This short video gives a sampling of how God has used Bonnke's love for people to reach nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray that we will see this kind of hunger for God in America!

The One Who Lifts Your Head

But You, O Lord, are a shield about me,

My glory, and the One who lifts my head.

Psalm 3:3 NASB

God Knows Your Name!

I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands

I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call

Tommy Walker

I will give you the treasures of darkness
And hidden wealth of secret places,
So that you may know that it is I,
The LORD, the God of Israel,
who calls you by your name.

Dawn is About to Break

Make sure that you don't get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God.

The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. Romans 13:11-12 Message

Streams

I stand on the footbridge
Listening to the gurgling brook
Rippling over rocks, then
Disappearing around the bend.
Not knowing where it began
Or where it ends
Or all the gaps
It fills along its way
Sometimes a trickle
Sometimes overflowing its banks.

Thirsty ones along life's way
See the flow of the Spirit in your life,
In the storms and in the droughts
Whether you feel empowered
Or stuck in the mud.
Amazing!
How He turns things around for good.
You can't yet see all those you're reaching,
Refreshing, reviving,
Because of His river of life.

Jesus said: "Whoever believes in Me,
as the Scripture has said,
Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."

Promises

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.

by R. Kelso Carter 1849-1926

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Source of Strength

"Transparency is the outer garment of humility,
and humility draws the grace of God to our hearts.

Is not intimacy with God
the very thing we most neglect?
And is not the Lord alone
our source of strength in battle?

If the enemy can distract us
from our time alone with God,
he will isolate us
from the help that comes from God alone.

As the pressures of this age escalate,
we will soon discover that yesterday's anointing
will not suffice for today's battles."

No One Like You

I gave birth to four children and none of them is like the other! Yet I love them all dearly.

Lenny Le Blanc wrote the lyrics to this song for us to sing to our awesome God, but I can imagine that God might sing them to us. After all, each of us is unique, and each of us is His favorite!

There is none like you.
No one else can touch my heart like you do.
I could search for all eternity long and find
There is none like you.

Recently, I was asked to give a short talk about my son who had Down syndrome who died from heart defects. What a gift his short life was to me and to many others! I thought maybe it would help someone who had a child with disabilities or a couple who were being pressured to abort a baby because of defects.

I was surprised when afterwards, a middle-aged man came to me privately and said: "All my life I have felt like I don't belong and that I was never supposed to be born. My birth was the result of a rape, and I was placed in an institution at birth. Your testimony about what a blessing your son was in your life, and how God values each and every person, has exposed Satan's lie.
I AM supposed to be here, and God has a purpose just for me!"

I chose you before I formed you in the womb;
I set you apart before you were born.
Jeremiah 1:5 Holman Christian Standard Bible

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,
from whence cometh my help?
My help cometh from the Lord,
which made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1-2

We had some very cold, windy days recently just as the autumn color reached its peak. From one day to the next, it seems, the trees shed their colorful leaves.

The wind grew strong,
The temperatures plunged.
Frost sugar-coated the bright maples.
Now there is a carpet of leaves of every hue
Strewn along the path.
The falling leaves paint a picture
Of how to humble myself
When the whirlwind of adversity blows.
Go low...lower still.
Fall down before the One
Who humbled Himself
That I might have new life.

YOU ARE LOVED!!

The Love of the Lord Jesus Christ:

Let it sink deep within your brain how much you are loved. You have never experienced the kind of love I have for you. It is without comparison. I want you to try loving yourself and others this way, but at the same time realizing it will never perfectly reach the level of love I give. You have never known what it is completely. Nevertheless bask in it. You don't have to know all about it to experience it and enjoy it. Enjoying it will cause you to want others to have it.   Bev Robinson

John 3:16-17 (ESV) "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."

I have an acquaintance who gave his life to Jesus Christ, after being raised in a religion hostile to Christianity. He is raising money now to go to a very dangerous country to share his new found faith with others who are facing persecution and death daily. THAT IS LOVE!!!

Living Water

In the low 70's here this week. Gorgeous weather for a walk!

I was reminded of this promise:
Whoever believes in me,
as the Scripture has said,
‘Out of his heart will flow
rivers of living water.’”
John 7:38

As I get older, I have many friends with disabilities and limitations, but the grace on their lives makes their smile even brighter, and their testimony sweeter.

Sure Footing

Be not afraid of sudden terror and panic, nor of the stormy blast, or the storm and ruin of the wicked when it comes [for you will be guiltless.] For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught in a trap or some hidden danger.

Proverbs 3:25-26 Amplified

Strong Tower

Remembering the lives that were lost on 9/11/01. Praying for our nation.

Thinking that there is only one strong tower that will last forever.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower:
the righteous runs into it, and is safe.

Enough for Me

This morning the hymn, "My faith has found a resting place", came to mind. One of the verses reads:

Enough for me that Jesus saves
This ends my fear and doubt
A sinful soul I came to Him
He'll never cast me out

I need no other argument
I need no other plea
It is enough that Jesus died
And that He died for me
Eliza Hewitt, 1891

Jesus' disciples once asked Him, "Where will anyone be able to find ENOUGH bread here in this desolate place to satisfy all these people?" Mark 8:4

It's good to remember how that situation turned out!

The most important thing we will learn in life is that Jesus is ENOUGH.

Father Knows Best

One of my favorite TV series from the 1950's was "Father Knows Best"? Whatever the question, the father seemed to have a wise answer.

My son has two stories that prove that our Heavenly Father also knows best. When Cameron had just gotten his drivers license, he saw a homeless person sitting on a curb outside a grocery store. He could not get the man off his mind after he got home. He disappeared into my office and was typing something on the computer. I went to see what he was up to. He was typing out the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, but he was using a giant bold font. He took the paper and made the trip back to the store. The man was still there, and he was surprised when Cameron handed him the message and told him what God had put on his heart. The man told him that he was visually impaired and could only read very large print.

Another time, Cameron went with a group of college students to share the love of Christ with people in an inner city neighborhood. There was a stack of free Bibles available for them to give away. However, by the time Cameron got to the Bibles, all that was left was a Spanish Bible. Disappointed, he took one anyway and headed out. Wouldn't you know the first family he encountered spoke only Spanish!

Once I worked at a fast food restaurant, where we were instructed to answer the customers with, "It would be my pleasure to help you." I think that, when we are seeking to bring honor to the name of Christ, God answers our prayers with , "It would be my pleasure to help you," even when we are not quite sure what to ask for.

God Is Listening

Evening, and morning, and at noon,
will I pray,
and cry aloud:
and he shall hear my voice.
Psalm 55:17

He is our Peace

"There will be no permanent peace and safety for Jerusalem until the Prince of Peace Himself comes to establish His reign on earth. So in effect, when I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, what I am really praying for is not for the terms of a treaty. I’m not praying for an independent Palestinian state or the recognition of Israel’s right to exist. What I’m really praying for is the return of Jesus. Yeshua. Israel’s Messiah. The Prince of Peace. So I’m on my knees, praying for the peace of Jerusalem. Even so, come Lord Jesus." - Anne Graham Lotzhttp://www.annegrahamlotz.org/blog/2014/jul/peace-jerusalem/

Don't Fret

 "Don't fret or worry.
Instead of worrying, pray.
Let petitions and praises
shape your worries into prayers,
letting God know your concerns.
Before you know it,
a sense of God's wholeness,
everything coming together for good,
will come and settle you down.
It's wonderful what happens
when Christ displaces worry
at the center of your life."
Philippians 4:6-7 (MSG)

Lord, Help me not to dwell on past regrets or to dread future challenges, but to rest in Your love, confident in Your eternal care.

Martyrs for Christ

I have been so moved to pray for the Christians in Iraq and in many other countries who are suffering and being killed because they refuse to renounce their faith in Jesus Christ.

I was thinking about how we judge Peter, Jesus' disciple, because, when he was questioned, he denied knowing Christ three times on the night before Jesus was crucified. We wonder if we would have denied Him.  Maybe a better question is: "Would we have even followed Jesus at all, or would we have been like some of the Pharisees, bowing to tradition and the praise of man, rather than listening to God?"

Thank God for one of the Pharisees, NICODEMUS, who came to question Jesus. Because of his honest questions, we have been given the answer to LIFE"S GREATEST QUESTION in Jesus' own words.

"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.

Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind SON OF GOD when introduced to him."

More Than Enough

Remember Papa ten Boom handing young Corrie her train ticket just before she stepped on the train to Amsterdam (from the film The Hiding Place). The Lord God says, "I have all you need, hidden for you in my pocket! I am more than enough."

So why should I worry
About the highs and the lows
The ups and the downs
When by my faith I know
My God is more than enough
He can supply all my needs
He is my El Shaddai
He always looks out for me
Jehovah Jireh, He is my God

Heavenly Storehouse

Just as in Noah's day, we see evil around us. God assured Noah that judgment was coming.  Noah was a "watchman on the wall" and tried to warn his neighbors, but he was laughed to scorn. Yet, because of Noah's obedience, there was a place of safety provided - the ark.

The Lord is telling us in these days to store up treasure in heaven for a "rainy day". There is a season of judgment coming for nations that no longer follow God's laws or honor His Name.

Safety and rest can be found in the place of prayer and in living out Jesus' "sermon on the mount". God is offering grace and mercy even now.

There is wisdom in preparing for tough times by stocking food, having cash on hand, and emergency plans in place. But the safest place is not on this earth.  It is the heavenly storehouse of intimate secret communication with Father God.

For though the mountains should depart and the hills be shaken or removed, yet My love and kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace and completeness be removed, says the Lord, Who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10 Amplified

The secret of the sweet, satisfying companionship of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its [deep, inner] meaning.
Psalm 25:14 Amplified

Christian Author, Victoria Boyson, wrote these words:
"The world is being blanketed by layers of fear that grow daily, and equally, so too our trust in God must increase. We will not succumb to the lies of the world we live in, for this is NOT our home. Our home is in Christ, we live in Him we are safe and secure in the arms of our Beloved. We will not relent we WILL trust our God He will NEVER forsake us. He will never forsake you."

"The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. But the Lord's plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken," (Psalm 33:10-11).

Visiting Family

I have been away from the computer for a few weeks. I am visiting my daughter and grandchildren and we are having a great time. I LOVE SUMMER...especially after the winter we had!

As I was looking up at the beautiful cloud shapes with the four-year old, I thought about Job's words:

God spreads out the nothern skies over empty space.
He suspends the earth over nothing.
He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters
for a boundary between light and darkness...
and these are but the outer fringe of His works.
How faint the whisper we hear of Him!
Who then can understand the thunder of His power?

Where Was Jesus?

I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love,
for you have seen my troubles,
and you care about the anguish of my soul.

Psalm 31:7 NLT

It is so sad to watch the news. Every day there are tragedies. My heart especially goes out to parents whose children have been the victims of senseless violence.

This week at Bible study, a young woman asked, "Why did Jesus weep for Lazarus when He knew that He would raise him from the dead?"

I think the verse above from Psalms answers that: Jesus cares about our anguish.

People often ask, "Yeah, well where was Jesus when someone was victimized?"

Jesus might answer, "I was on the cross, bearing the pain of the one who was harmed, and also the sin of the perpetrator."

Jesus is Worthy of All Our Praise

I saw in the night visions, and behold, on the clouds of the heavens came One like a Son of man, and He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And there was given Him [the Messiah] dominion and glory and kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away, and His kingdom is one which shall not be destroyed.
Daniel 7:13-14

Unto the Lamb

To Him who sits on the Throne
And unto the Lamb
To Him who sits on the Throne
And unto the Lamb
Be blessing and honor and glory and power forever
Be blessing and honor and glory and power forever

Kathleen Carnali

I heard every created thing in heaven and on earth and under the earth [in Hades, the place of departed spirits] and on the sea and all that is in it, crying out together, To Him Who is seated on the throne and to the Lamb be ascribed the blessing and the honor and the majesty (glory, splendor) and the power (might and dominion) forever and ever (through the eternities of the eternities)!

Lily

Consider the lilies; they don't toil or spin,
But there's not a king with more splendor than them.
Consider the sparrows; they don't plant nor sow,
But they're fed by the Master who watches them grow.

May I introduce you to this Friend of mine
Who hangs out the stars, tells the sun when to shine.
And kisses the flowers each morning with dew,
Oh, but friend, He's not too busy to care about you!

We have a Heavenly Father above
With eyes full of mercy and a heart full of love.
He really cares when your head is bowed low;
Consider the lilies, then you will know.

Joel Hemphill

Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Holy Boldness

I was reading in Act early this morning, how Peter and John were threatened to never again speak the name of Jesus. They prayed - not to be more politically correct so that everyone would like them - but for holy boldness to preach the Word, and that God would perform miracles, signs and wonders to confirm His Word.

And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all confidence, while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.
Acts 4:29-31 NASB

Lord Jesus, You promised that Your glory will cover the earth. May we be faithful to proclaim Your Word in these days, when many in the nations are being martyred for preaching the Gospel.

Strength to the Weary

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord
the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is inscrutable.
29
He gives strength to the weary,

And to him who lacks might He increases power.
30
Though youths grow weary and tired,

And vigorous young men stumble badly,
31
Yet those who wait for the Lord

Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.
Isaiah 40:28-31

Spring Forth

For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
Isaiah 61:11

ASK

Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations as Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth as Your possession. Psalm 2:8

I heard KC IHOP intercessor Rick Rupp this morning, telling about the astounding things God is doing in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and many remote island villages.  There are houses of prayer springing up, and government leaders publicly repenting for idolatry and vowing to serve the one true God.

God has blessed Rick with teams of doctors, nurses, prayer warriors, and people skilled in setting up sanitary water systems in places that have never had these services. He will be returning to the islands next week for a few months.

It was so wonderful to hear the Good News of people coming to the Lord and even going out to help neighbors in remote islands.

He showed us video of the children who live in such meager circumstances, dancing and singing worship songs to the Lord, and treasuring their first Bibles.

God is going to finish what He started, and all the earth will bow before Him!

Impossible?

Got any rivers you think are uncrossable
Got any mountains you can't tunnel through
God specializes in things thought impossible
He does the things others cannot do.

I woke up with this old chorus on my mind, but couldn't remember all the words. When I looked online, I found the following comment with the lyrics:

My father is Oscar C. Eliason.  Dad wrote the chorus in 1929.  He was dying of TB in a Minneapolis hospital and an elderly minister came by one evening and prayer was offered. The next day be began to improve and he continued to improve to such an extent that the Doctors admitted that something out of the ordinary had happened.

(I would like to know more of this story!)

Promise

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

In Christ Alone

As you live this new life, we pray that you will be strengthened from God’s boundless resources, so that you will find yourselves able to pass through any experience and endure it with courage. You will even be able to thank God in the midst of pain and distress because you are privileged to share the lot of those who are living in the light. For we must never forget that he [God] rescued us from the power of darkness, and re-established us in the kingdom of his beloved Son, that is, in the kingdom of light. For it is by his Son alone that we have been redeemed and have had our sins forgiven.
Colossians 1:11-14

God has really been speaking to our Bible study group through this song recently. A member of our group is a young mother and wife who has cancer. The doctors have said there is nothing more they can do for her. Yet she is holding on to her faith in Christ and she has the most beautiful smile, even when she is too weak to sit or speak. Please pray for Esther and her family.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love,
What depths of peace
When fears are stilled,
When strivings cease.
My comforter, my all in all,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

Praise and Strength

It is written that, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower.”  The word in Hebrew for “strong” is “oz”.  It means “strength”, “force”, and “boldness”. Thus, the name of God is strong, it has a force in it, and it gives boldness. The word also means security. The name of God brings security. It also means “majesty” - the name of God is majestic.

However, “oz” also means “praise”  in Hebrew. So there is a link between praise and strength.

Those who praise God become strong. The praising of God brings strength. Jehoshaphat’s soldiers were strong because they praised God. That was always the secret of God’s army. The armies of Israel were led by worshipers praising. Those who don’t praise God, who complain, are going to be weak. Those who praise God are going to be strong.

The secret of strength is not exercise or willpower, the secret of strength is given to those who praise. For “oz” means both praise and strength. The name of God is a strong tower, a tower of praise.

From Message - Inside the Tower - by Jonathan Cahn

Today’s Mission: Give thanks to the Lord and sing a love song of praise to Him.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower;

The righteous run to it and are safe.

Quiet Week

I have not been out all week because of the snow and ice.  I live at the top of a hill that has not been cleared. I have been blessed to have a warm place. Thankfully, our electricity stayed on. I know most of the states have been affected by the harsh winter weather.

I have enjoyed reading through Isaiah again, one of my favorite Old Testament books. Here is a favorite verse:

"The mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, and My covenant of peace will not be shaken," say the Lord who has compassion you you.

4th of July Parade1965

My friend Becky's Mom took us to downtown Atlanta to see the Parade. Handsome David McCallum was the star we longed to catch a glimpse of as he passed by in a convertible. He played the part of a spy on the popular new TV show The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Becky's little sister wrote a fan letter to McCallum afterwards that said. "I was the girl in the pink dress." Being older and wiser (?) we teased her about that and assured her he did not remember her outfit or even notice her in the throngs along Peachtree Street.

As I was reading Isaiah 49:15 this morning, I was humbled to think that the God of the universe knows us and sees us. His Word says He knows where we live. He knows our thoughts. He knows if our favorite color is pink. Sweet is His promise: Even if others forget - I will not forget you.

Thankful to Know the Lord

I will serve Thee because I love Thee
You have given life to me.
I was nothing before You found me,
You have given life to me.
Heartaches, broken pieces,
Ruined lives are why You died on Calvary.
Your touch was what I longed for,
You have given life to me.

William J. and Gloria Gaither

This is what the Lord says:
“Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom,
or the powerful boast in their power,
or the rich boast in their riches.
But those who wish to boast
should boast in this alone:
that they truly know me

and understand that I am the Lord
who demonstrates unfailing love
and who brings justice

and righteousness to the earth,
and that I delight in these things.
I, the Lord, have spoken!
Jeremiah 9:23-24
