Taking a Stand

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
Albert Einstein

This is how my nine year old grandchild began her persuasive essay for her school assignment. She came up with the title: Why People Should Believe in God. She told me, "I cannot convince people to trust in God, but I can say that I do, and I can pray that they will accept Him, too."

We spent the weekend reading about some very successful people who agreed with her. She related a true story about Sir Isaac Newton, a Christian, whom many consider to be one of the greatest scientists of all times. She wrote about  Corrie ten Boom, and how her faith enabled her to love her enemies even during the holocaust.

She especially liked the last lines of The Star Spangled Banner:

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto:

"In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Francis Scott Key

Wow! What boldness and persuasiveness for such a young lady! Her speech sounded excellent. I am so thankful students are still able to speak about God and lead prayer even if teachers are legally allowed to do so. God's word never returns void so hopefully she has planted some seeds in the minds of her peers - - or even her teachers.
