People ask, why does the Bible tell us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem? It seems there has been continual conflict there.
The only answer I can give is that Jesus is our Peace.
The forerunner of Jesus Christ was John the Baptist. I was so moved by the prophetic words that his father, Zacharias, spoke over him when John was only eight days old. We are also forerunners because Jesus is coming again.
“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
For you will go on before the Lord to prepare His ways;
To give to His people the knowledge of salvation
By the forgiveness of their sins,
Because of the tender mercy of our God,
With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,
To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Luke 1:76-79 NASB
We pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We pray for the Palestinian people and the Jewish people. We pray Thy kingdom come! Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
