Make Me More Loving

When I was younger, I was whining that I wished I had a sportier car-with pin stripes! A good Christian friend of mine shocked me with this question: "Would that make you a more loving person?"

NOT: Would it make people like me...but would it make me more loving!!

I thought of that as I read Paul's prayer:

And this I pray: that your love may abound yet more and more and extend to its fullest development in knowledge and all keen insight [that your love may display itself in greater depth of acquaintance and more comprehensive discernment],

So that you may surely learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize what is excellent and of real value [recognizing the highest and the best, and distinguishing the moral differences], and that you may be untainted and pure and unerring and blameless [so that with hearts sincere and certain and unsullied, you may approach] the day of Christ [not stumbling nor causing others to stumble].

Philippians 1:9-10 Amplified

A dear friend was just sharing with me that the LORD had impressed upon her that the essence of life is "to love and be loved."
If we focus on being more like JESUS, that is inevitable!

What an insightful question to ask. I'm afraid if I got most of my 'wants,' I would be not improved at all.
