If you are a parent, a school teacher, or were once a kid, you have heard these words, usually in a nasal whine: "It's not fair!"
When I was about six years old, it was popular among the kids on our street to trade things...anything from baseball cards to marbles. One of the older kids found out that I had a silver dollar I was saving for the State Fair. He offered to trade me a doll his sister had made from empty spools of thread, pipe cleaners, scraps of fabric and yarn. Well, it was kinda cute, but you might say that I got "shortchanged" on that trade! (For you younger folks, a dollar would have bought me ten double scoop ice cream cones at the Soda Fountain in 1956.)
Did you know that Jesus is into trading? And I always come out ahead in the deal!
He traded me a dozen long-stemmed red roses for the ashes of my past,
love letters for my worst report cards,
a singing heart instead of a broken record.
forgiveness instead of shame.
healing for hurting.
His presence to replace my loneliness.
a princess crown of love and mercy instead of a "bad hair day" .
He took my stained frayed robe and dressed me in a Cinderella gown of beauty eternally.
He takes my weariness and renews my youth—
I feel like a kid again when we are dancing.
Thank you, Jesus, that you did not give me what was "fair";
You gave me Your best.

Amen, praise God.
Thank-you Jesus. "Fair" was not what You got at the cross. "Fair" was not what we got either. "Fair" should have been eternity separated from You, but You love us so much you took the cross and allowed Yourself to shed Your blood for us that we might spend eternity with you. Thank-you for not being "fair".
That is absolutely beautiful, I loved it.
AMEN! So true. I love the song Beauty for Ashes. Your post reminded me of that song. My sister and I used to sing it as a special in church.
Have a blessed one. Hugs from Texas.
